URCA Appoints General Counsel

Wallace-Whitfield[/caption] The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. C. Vincent Wallace-Whitfield as General Counsel with effect from August 1, 2012. Mr Wallace-Whitfield joined the Public Utilities Commission, which preceded URCA, December of 2006 as Senior Legal Counsel, and later as Senior Case Officer, following the 2009 establishment of URCA. In these capacities, he oversaw legal affairs, in support of the organisation’s policy and regulatory functions. URCA Appoints New Executive

The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) announces the appointment of Mr. Stephen Bereaux as Director of Policy & Regulation (DPR) with effect from July 17, 2012. The appointment, which is for a three-year term, concludes a competitive search began in April of this year, when former DPR Kathleen Riviere-Smith was named Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr Bereaux most recently held the position of Senior Case Officer at URCA, since September 2010. BTC Granted Deadline Extension

The Bahamas Telecommunication Company Ltd (BTC) has requested and been granted by the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) a one-week extension of its reporting deadline, regarding the June 18th and 19th network outages, from July 9th to July 16th. On June 22, 2012 URCA launched an investigation into BTC’s actions regarding these outages. The operator is required to provide URCA with a detailed report.
