The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) has extended the deadline to respond to its Preliminary Determination on "Wholesale Fixed Call Termination Price Control for SMP Licensees" (URCA document reference ECS 01/2014). Consumer Protection Booklet Released

URCA today published a Consumer Protection Booklet, which outlines the Consumer Protection Regulations for the Electronic Communications Sector established December 30, 2013. Publication of the regulations concluded a process which began on June 10, 2013 when URCA released draft regulations for public consultation. Consultation activities included public meetings on the draft regulations in New Providence, Abaco, Andros, Eleuthera, Grand Bahama and San Salvador; in addition to appearances by URCA representatives in various broadcast media forums. URCA today published its Preliminary Determination on "The Assessment of Significant Market Power in the Electronic Communications Sector in The Bahamas under Section 39(1) of The Communications Act, 2009", URCA document reference ECS 10/2014. The Preliminary Determination presents URCA's preliminary views on the competitive conditions of key retail markets in The Bahamas: fixed voice services, broadband services, business connectivity services (i.e. national and international data circuits), and Pay TV services. Extension of Time for ADR Consultation

Today, URCA issued a NOTICE OF EXTENSION for responses to the Public Consultation Document "The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Guidelines – [ECS 02/2014] issued March 24, 2014 after URCA received requests from key industry stakeholders for URCA to consider an extension to its deadline of May 2, 2014 as stipulated in the document. URCA has, therefore, extended the deadline and will now consider all responses from interested parties on the Public Consultation Document that are received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014.
