URCA publishes Statement of Results and Final Decision on Proposal to Open Standard Spectrum Bands

The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) has today published a Statement of Results and Final Decision  under the caption Proposal to Open Standard Spectrum Bands Currently Specified as ‘Closed’ in the National Spectrum Plan 2014-2017 (ECS 03/2014).  The Statement of Results and Final Decision is listed as ECS 04/2018 and follows URCA’s review of the responses to the Public Consultation Document, ECS 18/2017, published on 9 November 2017 under the same caption. URCA Issues Statement on Navette Broadcasting

Today the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority, URCA, assisted by the Royal Bahamas Police Force, successfully executed a search and seizure warrant at the transmitter site of Navette Broadcasting & Entertainment Co. Ltd (Navette). The effect of the action, ceased Navette’s operation of an FM radio station using the broadcast frequency 103.5FM, which is licensed to Paramount Systems Ltd pursuant to a licence from URCA dated 15 June 2017. Navette had been broadcasting on the frequency without a licence from URCA in violation of sections 16.1 and 33 of the Communications Act 2009 (Comms act). Today’s action was subsequent to…

URCA issues Final Determination and Order to BTC on Breach of Retail Pricing Rules

The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (“URCA”) has published a Final Determination and Order to the Bahamas Telecommunications Company Ltd. (“BTC") relating to breaches by BTC of the ex-ante retail pricing rules and other regulatory measures.
