Today March 27, 2012, the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) releases for public consultation its Preliminary Determination and Draft Order, for the application of the Code of Practice for Content Regulation to Carriage Services, Content Services and On-Demand Audiovisual Media Services and the application of Must Carry Obligations to Content Services Intended for Reception by Subscribers of Carriage Services in The Bahamas. URCA Opens New Spectrum Bands

The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) has today opened the 700MHz, 11GHz, 12GHz and 42GHz spectrum bands. In support of these openings, URCA has also today issued the policies which govern URCA’s administration of these bandwidths, including the terms and conditions by which licenses will be awarded (URCA document reference ECS 09/2012). The 700 MHz spectrum band, ranging from 698 MHz to 806 MHz, is expected to draw significant industry interest. Public Consultation: URCA’s Cost Efficiency Study of BTC

February 16, 2012, the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) released for public consultation, a “Cost Efficiency Study of the Bahamas Telecommunications Company Limited (BTC)”, [URCA document reference number ECS 04/2012]. The exercise supports the regulator’s extensive engagement with BTC, electronic communication sector (ECS) participants and the public at large, to establish standards for Reference Access and Interconnection Offers (RAIO) by BTC.
