The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) has launched a public consultation on its proposed Consumer Protection Plan Guidelines for Authorised Public Electricity Suppliers (APES).
The proposed Guidelines seek to establish a clear, consistent and practical framework for the preparation, submission, approval and implementation of Consumer Protection Plans, in accordance with the Electricity Act, 2024.
The Guidelines address key consumer protection matters, including service quality and reliability, billing practices, complaint and dispute resolution, service disconnections, and protections for vulnerable consumers. They also recognise the varying operational arrangements of electricity suppliers throughout The Bahamas.
URCA invites electricity sector licensees, consumers and other interested stakeholders to review the consultation documents and provide written feedback.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, 4 December 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
Comments may be submitted via email to info@urcabahamas.bs or delivered to URCA’s offices at Frederick House, Frederick Street, Nassau.
