URCA Extends Deadline for Responses to 5G Consultation

The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) wishes to advise stakeholders and the general public that the deadline for submission of comments on its Consultation Document on the proposed implementation of a 5G regulatory framework in The Bahamas (ECS 01/2026) has been extended.
The consultation, originally published on 5 February 2026, represents the third and final phase of URCA’s public consultation process on 5G. It sets out URCA’s proposed regulatory approach to enabling the introduction and rollout of 5G mobile services in The Bahamas, including key considerations such as spectrum assignment and pricing, licence conditions, rollout obligations, quality of service benchmarks, infrastructure resilience, and network security.
In response to requests from stakeholders for additional time to review the Consultation Document and prepare submissions, URCA has extended the deadline for written comments from 8 April 2026 to 31 May 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
URCA encourages all stakeholders and interested parties to take advantage of the extended period to provide comprehensive feedback. This input will assist URCA in finalising a regulatory framework that reflects market realities and aligns with national policy objectives.
The Consultation Document is available on URCA’s website at www.urcabahamas.bs. Comments should be addressed to the Director of Electronic Communications and submitted via email to info@urcabahamas.bs.
Following the close of the consultation period, URCA will review all submissions and publish a Statement of Results and Final Decision outlining its final policy position and next steps for the implementation of a 5G regulatory framework in The Bahamas.
