GUIDELINES FOR DIGITAL TRANSITION: IDENTIFICATION OF AVAILABLE DIGITAL DIVIDEND SPECTRUM (ECS 73/2019)
On 16 May 2018, the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) published a Consultation Document under the caption Draft Guidelines for Digital Transition: Identification of Available Digital Dividend Spectrum (ECS 06/2018). URCA explained that the objectives of that consultation document were:
- To set out URCA’s considerations regarding digital television broadcasting, including relevant technical standards and proposed spectrum use;
- To set out protocols proposed by URCA to ensure an effective and efficient means of transitioning from analog television broadcasting to digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB) recommended for ITU Region 2 countries, which includes The Bahamas;
- To recommend an effective and efficient approach to the implementation of Digital Switchover (DSO);
- To identify key issues and the impact DSO is anticipated to have on stakeholders; and
- To seek input and feedback on URCA’s recommendations and considerations from interested persons.
URCA requested that initial responses to the Consultation Document be submitted to URCA by 5 p.m. on 29 June 2018. URCA, having received no comments from the general public or interested parties, concluded the consultation, and URCA today published the Statement of results and Final Decision on Guidelines for Digital Transition: Identification of Available Digital Dividend Spectrum. This document is listed as ECS 73/2019.
