URCA Partners with Caribe Sigma for Nationwide ICT Access and Usage Survey
The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) is pleased to announce that it has
engaged Caribe Sigma Research Company to conduct a comprehensive nationwide survey on
the state of access to and use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) throughout
The Bahamas. This initiative marks a significant step in URCA’s ongoing efforts to evaluate and
enhance universal service obligations in the electronic communications sector.
Caribe Sigma will undertake research that will provide valuable insights into the availability,
accessibility, and affordability of ICT services, particularly in the Family Islands. The findings
from this study will play a critical role in helping URCA shape policies that promote digital
inclusion, ensuring that all Bahamians, regardless of geographic location, have equitable access
to essential communication services.
The research will involve data collection at both the household and individual levels across
selected islands, focusing on identifying unserved and underserved communities, barriers to ICT
adoption, and opportunities to enhance connectivity. The results will inform targeted
interventions aimed at bridging the digital divide and fostering economic and social
development through improved access to technology.
URCA urges the public to fully cooperate with Caribe Sigma in this important research initiative.
The data gathered will be used solely for the purpose of advancing universal meaningful
connectivity, supporting national development, and ensuring that no community is left behind
in the digital age.
Fieldwork is set to begin imminently, and survey teams will be reaching out to households and
businesses across The Bahamas. URCA appreciates the participation of all stakeholders and
looks forward to using the findings to drive informed policy decisions that benefit the entire
nation.
