Consumer Centre

URCA, as the regulator, must create policies and procedures to safeguard consumers and foster fair competition. This ensures that all market players operate on an equal footing and deliver services of high quality at competitive prices.

URCA is also responsible for managing the country’s natural resources, like spectrum and numbers, used for telecommunications. This ensures the continued growth of the sector for the benefit of the public.

By conducting continuous public awareness campaigns and educational initiatives, URCA aims to keep consumers well-informed about developments in the regulated sectors. This includes conveying the potential impacts of changes in these sectors over time on consumers and the services offered. URCA is dedicated to ensuring that consumers across The Bahamas have access to information about the regulated sectors as well as details about URCA’s role and activities. This commitment aims to empower residents to maximize the benefits of well-regulated electronic communications and electricity sectors.

Consumer Protection

URCA is required, under its governing legislation, to create consumer protection regulations for both sectors. These regulations contain detailed information about consumers’ rights and responsibilities, as well as the obligations of service providers in the regulated electronic communications and electricity sectors. The documents also outline expectations for providers who do not fulfill the services as specified in their contracts with consumers.

If consumers have complaints about their service providers regarding issues like billing, maintenance, regular service, contracts, false advertising, speed, or service quality, and have already tried to resolve them directly with the providers without success, URCA offers a thorough complaint resolution process. This process is dedicated to addressing consumer complaints within specific time frames. Detailed guidance on how to file a complaint with URCA can be found on this website.
